Operations & Client Care Coordinator
As operations and client care coordinator, Aryn Maitland brings his solid administrative experience to Willowmar. Having spent several years working in the nonprofit sector, Aryn has a background that includes process development, strategy, and recruiting. A first-generation college student, he’s also expanding his knowledge academically through coursework in business, environmental justice, and automotive technology.
Originally from upstate New York, Aryn has called the San Francisco Bay Area home for the past decade and now lives in Oakland. A firm believer in the power of community, perseverance, and integrity, Aryn volunteers with several local organizations aimed at environmental conservation and restorative justice, including serving on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee for the Golden Gate Audubon Society. Aryn loves the outdoors, inspiring green living, and empowering people to bring their ideas to life through do-it-yourself projects. He’s also a co-parent to an adorable senior rescue dog named Toby.
Which are your favorite Bay Area trails?
“We have so many gorgeous places right in our backyard! Leona Canyon Trail is a nice, gentle hike — great for walking Toby — and is bursting with wildlife. I can choose to take a leisurely stroll or, with a little effort and an uphill climb, reward myself with gorgeous hilltop views of Oakland.”
You’re passionate about birds. What’s the coolest bird you’ve spotted, and where?
“Such a tough question! While hiking through a cloud forest in Costa Rica, I was captivated by a Lesson’s motmot — bold and beautiful colors, tricky to see, and somewhat whimsical. I’m fascinated by all birds and am always ready to talk about birds or take new friends around to see my favorite locals!”
You trained and worked as a mechanic. What lessons did you learn?
“You’re a lot more capable than you think. It’s easy to get caught up in the problem and what’s going wrong, but that doesn’t necessarily fix anything. Take a deep breath, trace your way back to the beginning, and you’ll find your answer. Trust the process.”
How do you start a perfect day?
“French press coffee and a podcast. SPF and the right layers. My favorite pen.”
